Project #9 (pre-work): Surrealism

Surrealism : Non-photographic

Frida Kahlo

Vladimir Kush
Surrealism dream-like visuals that show both imagination and irrational juxtaposition. There is no real rules when creating surrealism, as long as you can imagine it. When doing surrealism, it shouldn't be possible in real life, but there are aspects of it that make sense. Like in the Frida Kahlo painting above, the person is real, but the column as their spine is not possible in real life.

Surrealism: Photography

Hanns Bellmer

Tim Walker
For surrealism in photography, although the same concept, requires much more thought in how it could be possible in real life (even though some of could be editing). For the first image by Hanns Bellmer, it looks like there is no editing. It is not realistic but it is something that the photographer had to make. It is surrealism but sometimes with photography it has an ounce of realism.
